Niculescu uses architectural structures as instruments for exploring human activities, the current transformation of our natural environment and the evolution of urban habitats. The exhibition will include several floor-to-ceiling structures based on metabolic principles, a collection of found post-cards, and a performance with slide projections.
Sunday 9th:
Cécile Dauchez | David Orme | David de Tscharner | Francesca Anfossi | Hank Schmidt in der Beek | Margarita Myrogianni
Matthew Thompson | Mireille Blanc | Rebecca Stephany | Takuto Sawada | Tina Kohlmann | Tina Schott
A screening curated to complement the ideas behind the exhibition, based on the invited artists’ geographical locations and individual encounters (with the curator). All films explore the notion of collection which might or might not be related to the author’s practice. Most works to be screened have purposely been created for this event.
Tuesday 11th:
Los Angeles Plays Itself | Thom Andersen | USA | 2003
“Of the cities in the world, few are depicted in and mythologized more in film and television than the city of Los Angeles. In this documentary, Thom Andersen examines in detail the ways the city has been depicted, both when it is meant to be anonymous and when itself is the focus. Along the way, he illustrates his concerns of how the real city and its people are misrepresented and distorted through the prism of popular film culture.” Kenneth Chisholm
Wednesday 12th:
Along The Lines | RO/UK | 2011 • Second In Space | USA/UK | 2012 • Present Perfect | JP/UK | 2013
Three experimental films that look at location-informed socio-economic developments of modernist architecture in Romania, California and Japan. The films draw upon (modernist) architecture’s relationship to its natural environment, its integration into urban systems and juxtapositions with the local vernacular.
